Brainstorm on last 3 Games

We met Friday to brainstorm out some game ideas for CFS project. Please add to or correct this. I would like to schedule some time to discuss what we came up with and have someone take much better notes than I took and to present our ideas and see if anyone salutes.

Accept/Reject:
We came up with two directions which we could go in.

The first was to make the interface isometric and similar to the Kitchen Rollover activity.

The scene would be the alley behind the restaurant. A worker waits at the back door as a truck pulls up. The back of the truck opens, a conveyor drops and foods begin to roll down and stop at the bottom. When the food reaches it's stopping place, the interface displays a picture of the food and the appropriate description of condition. The user is prompted to accept or reject the food item. If they accept the food, another worker comes and takes it and carries into kitchen. User can then move on to next food. If they reject the food it is put back on the truck. At the end of a round the user is shown their score and told what choices they got right and wrong. If they do well they get promoted? or praised by the manager/owner?

The activity is timed to provide a sense of urgency. If the food at the end of the conveyor belt is not checked quickly maybe a burglar comes and steals the food. Maybe the truck driver is on a delivery schedule and cannot wait long. In the first round the foods come relatively slowly. As the user progresses through the game the time to accept becomes shorter

Not sure if feedback should be immediate or reviewed after all the foods have been checked at the end of the level?

The 2nd idea was make the game play more like the "Monk" games I sent previously. We liked the idea of helping Monk do things. We thought the idea would be the users were helping the food service worker do his job correctly.

Instead of trying to make Monk happy you are trying to make the worker happy. For this game we again see the back of the restaurant. The worker is standing by the truck. Items come flying out of the truck and hover around the worker until one is selected by the user. The food zooms in and we see a detailed image and description, and buttons to accept or reject. A clock is also counting down. If you correctly accept/ reject the food flies into the kitchen or into the dumpster (whichever) and the manager appears happier. If you are incorrect the manager looks angrier and the food returns to it's hovering position until it is chosen again. This is repeated for a certain number of foods. The level is completed and the next level is harder. The foods are a little more difficult to judge and the time is shorter.

The group voted for this game 4 to 2.

We felt that we could make the rest of the games similar in style. Also, each game can be broken down as far as needed for simplification. As it progresses it could be made gradually harder by adding more pieces, speeding up the time or both.

Cooked Rice:

For this game we imagine a pot of rice cooking on the stove. It has a thermometer in it and the user controls the stove control that keeps the flame up. The flame is constantly trying to go down and the must keep it up because that keeps the temp above 135. If it falls below 135, bacteria begin to appear and they are producing toxins. Even if the user gets the temp back up above 135, it only kills the bacteria. The toxins do not go away. Eventually, the rice becomes so riddled with bacteria it makes the chef unhappy. The object is to keep the chef happy for as long as possible.

Dishwashing:
This game was based on a 3 compartment sink. The first compartment has a thermometer and is soapy. The temp of the water must be kept above 110 and the water kept soapy. This is accomplished by tapping the hot water tap and the soap dispenser. The second sink is for rinsing. The water must be kept at 110. Hit the hot water tap to keep it's temp up. The third sink is for sanitizing and has a sanitizing solution level indicator. The level goes down as dishes pass through it. The level is raised by hitting the solution dispenser over the sink.

Dishes fly through all the sinks, dipping into each one. At the end there is a "clean" inspection. If all the plates are clean, then you make the dishwasher happy.

The sketches are very very rough. If you like the ideas I will sketch them out in detail for the group.
